Ibrahimović: EU negotiations could conclude in the coming months

Montenegro’s Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ervin Ibrahimović said Montenegro is the most serious candidate for membership in the European Union and that it could complete the negotiating process in the coming months.

During the opening of the Berlin Process ministerial meeting in Budva, he stressed that Montenegro has implemented reforms, harmonised its legislation and is ready for the next phase of European integration.

Ibrahimović said the results of countries that advance in reforms should be recognised and that European integration should bring concrete benefits for citizens.

He placed particular emphasis on regional cooperation and the need to stop young people leaving the Western Balkans, by creating conditions for employment, opening businesses, starting families and a better quality of life.

According to him, the region’s European path should be accompanied by a concrete EU enlargement process, while the region’s countries should strengthen institutions to respond to hybrid threats, attacks and disinformation.
