Indelible tragedy: Mother and two children killed in Russian drone strike in Kyiv region
A 39-year-old woman, her two-year-old son and a three-year-old girl lost their lives on Friday evening after a Russian drone struck a residential house in the village of Hlevakha, in the Fastiv district of the Kyiv region. The governor of the Kyiv region, Tymur Tkachenko, called the attack an “indelible tragedy” and offered his condolences to the victims’ family.
According to Ukraine’s national police, the blast killed the 39-year-old woman along with the two children — her two-year-old son and a three-year-old girl; authorities have not yet clarified whether the girl is also her daughter. A third woman was wounded in the strike. The explosion damaged residential houses and a vehicle, while the fire that broke out was extinguished by fire crews. Emergency services worked at the scene late into the evening.
The strike on Hlevakha came on a day when air-raid alerts continued almost uninterrupted across the Kyiv region. In the Vyshhorod district, a mother and a child were wounded and rushed to hospital; an educational institution and a bus were also damaged there. During Friday alone, at least nine civilian objects were damaged in four districts of the region — including five warehouses, a production plant, a garage, vehicles and a residential building. Earlier in the day, another woman was wounded in the Fastiv district as well.
Russia has significantly intensified drone strikes against Ukrainian residential areas in recent weeks. On September 8 alone, a major strike on Kyiv killed five people and wounded dozens, causing extensive damage to residential buildings.
