Indictment against former Environment Ministry official suspected of causing over €15.7 million in damage to the budget

Kosovo’s Special Prosecution has filed an indictment against the defendant with the initials N.H. on three criminal offenses, while I.B. has been indicted for unauthorized possession of weapons, as Telegrafi reports.

N.H. is accused of the criminal offenses of “Abuse of official position or authority,” “Money laundering” and “Failure to report or false reporting of wealth, income, gifts, other material benefits or financial obligations.”

According to the indictment, during 2021–2023, N.H., in his capacity as an official at the Ministry of Environment, is suspected of exceeding his legal powers and failing to carry out his official duties, in order to enable certain economic operators engaged in water packaging to obtain unlawful benefits.

The Prosecution claims that his actions caused damage to the state budget worth 15 million 752 thousand 486 euros and 7 cents.

According to the indictment, N.H. did not send all the economic operators for assessment to the Ministerial Working Group. After receiving this group’s report, he is suspected of dividing the operators into three groups, enabling their financial obligations to be determined on the basis of their unverified reports.

The Prosecution also claims that the defendant did not implement the Working Group’s assessments when determining the economic operators’ debts, thereby reducing their financial obligations for water use.

Meanwhile, I.B. has been indicted for the criminal offense of “Ownership, control or unauthorized possession of weapons.”
