Iran Attacks Canadian PM Carney: “Time Is Far Too Cruel” for the “Shelter of Illusion and Hypocrisy”

Iran’s Foreign Ministry has sharply criticized Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney, after he called U.S. President Donald Trump’s threat to “obliterate” Iran simply “war language.”

In a post on the X platform, ministry spokesman Esmaeil Baghaei said that “Mark Carney must understand that time is far too cruel to let the shelter of illusion and hypocrisy stand forever.” According to him, “those who sought shelter under the long shadow of American bullying” will eventually learn that “averting one’s eyes from reality and selling dignity and self-respect does not buy salvation.”

Baghaei added in poetic tones that Iran’s critics “will see that the nation they once conspired with empires to suppress was the lonely guardian of a sacred flame,” which kept the torch burning against coercion.

The reaction comes a day after Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian’s speech at the UN General Assembly, where he said Iran will never bow to American threats, and after Trump’s speech a day earlier, in which the U.S. president warned he could “obliterate the Islamic Republic” if no deal is reached.

Canada also became a target of new measures this week, as Ottawa sanctioned 10 Iranian officials and entities on charges of human rights violations — a move Tehran has condemned as interference in internal affairs.
