IRGC says it killed 6 “terrorists” who were planning a bomb attack near Tehran
Forces of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) have killed six members of a “terrorist group” suspected of planning a bomb operation near Tehran, as Al Jazeera reports in its liveblog on the Iran war.
According to Iranian state media, IRGC soldiers discovered explosives in a home in the village of Manjilabad, in Tehran province, about 44 kilometres southwest of the capital, and clearing operations in the area are continuing. The Tasnim news agency reported that “the operation is continuing with the aim of fully clearing the site and confronting the terrorist elements.”

Iran has repeatedly accused the United States and Israel of fomenting unrest inside the country by arming and financing opposition groups, Al Jazeera recalls. The incident comes at a moment when the U.S.–Iran war has entered its eighth month, with parallel escalation in Yemen, in Lebanon and in the Persian Gulf.
The Iranian authorities have not yet published the identities of those killed or details about the target of the alleged attack; the operation is described as “ongoing.”
