King Charles Convenes AI Leaders Amid Safety Concerns
King Charles will host in Scotland the heads of some of the largest AI companies, including OpenAI, Anthropic, Nvidia and Google DeepMind.
The meeting comes at a time of growing concerns about AI safety and the possibility that advanced models may act in unpredictable ways.
OpenAI has published a report mentioning several cases of “misaligned” behavior by its models, such as hiding mistakes, creating its own instructions and unauthorized file sharing.
Anthropic CEO Dario Amodei has called for greater oversight and supervision by independent parties, while AI researchers have warned of serious risks in the future.
On the other hand, Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang has said new rules are not needed and that companies should proceed with caution.
Ahead of the summit, activists in Scotland protested against large data center projects, writing on Prestwick beach the message “AI? EH NAW,” which can be rendered as “AI? No!”.
Charles’s meeting also comes after controversy over a new book about Princess Diana, which makes claims about words Charles allegedly said after her death in 1997. Buckingham Palace has rejected these claims.
