Kurti: I asked Von der Leyen for Kosovo’s membership in European organizations
At the joint press conference with European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen, held on Wednesday afternoon at the Kosovo Government building in Pristina, caretaker Prime Minister Albin Kurti said he had asked the senior European official for Kosovo’s membership in European organizations.
“I asked Von der Leyen for Kosovo’s membership in European organizations”, Kurti told reporters, as Klan Kosova reports, stressing Kosovo’s commitment to the European path and the reforms the country is implementing.
Von der Leyen’s visit to Pristina is her Kosovo stop as part of her Balkan tour. She was welcomed by the leaders of Kosovo’s institutions, met caretaker minister Donika Haxhiu, while her meeting with Kurti began at around 13:40. The European Commission President’s agenda also includes meetings with EULEX, KFOR and EUSR staff, with leaders of opposition parties and with representatives of civil society.
The visit comes at an important moment for Kosovo, which is moving forward towards European integration and implementation of the 880 million euro growth plan, for which the Kosovo authorities have sought continued support from Brussels.
Earlier in the day, small protests against the visit were also recorded in Pristina, with citizens briefly blocking the road near the airport while holding banners reading “KLA”.
