Kurti on the Albanians of the Valley: Unity in the elections could be historic
The Prime Minister of Kosovo, Albin Kurti, praised the agreement reached between representatives of the Albanian political parties from Presheva, Medvegja and Bujanoci on a joint coalition list in the October 25 elections in Serbia, as Telegrafi reports.
Speaking at the Government meeting, Kurti described the unity of the Albanian political parties as an important step, aimed at achieving a result that, according to him, could make the agreement historic for the Albanians of the Valley.
“This is an important step of unity, aimed at achieving a result that could make this agreement historic for the Albanians of the Valley in their efforts against discrimination and exclusion, as well as against administrative ethnic cleansing,” Kurti said.
He also spoke about what he considers an asymmetry in the rights of the Albanian communities in Serbia and the Serb communities in Kosovo.
“We all know about the asymmetry of rights, which is a blatant injustice. Serbs in Kosovo are guaranteed 10 seats out of the 120 that the Assembly of Kosovo has in total, and with this approach the Albanians of the Valley should have at least 5 guaranteed seats in the Parliament of Serbia, which numbers 250 seats,” the prime minister said.
Kurti said guaranteed representation should be a principle that applies in both countries.
“Guaranteed representation is a principle that must apply both in Kosovo and in Serbia,” he stressed.
Finally, Kurti described the unity of the Albanian political parties in the Valley as an initiative on which, according to him, work should be done with trust and dedication.
“This is an important initiative, on which we must build with mutual trust and with much work and dedication,” Kurti said.
