Kurti receives Hamza and Rama at the Government today, with the focus on the Law on the Specialist Chambers
The chairman of the Democratic Party of Kosovo, Bedri Hamza, and this party’s MP, Rrahman Rama, arrived on Friday at the Kosovo Government building for a meeting with Prime Minister Albin Kurti, as the Ekonomia Online portal reports, carried by rks.news.
According to the reports, the meeting is expected to focus on the PDK initiative to amend and supplement the Law on the Specialist Chambers of Kosovo — a proposal the opposition party has set as a political condition before discussing the election of the country’s new president.
Assembly Speaker Glauk Konjufca was also seen at the Government building before the meeting, according to the same reports, while details on the outcome of the talks have not yet been made public.
The meeting comes in the final days of the constitutional deadline for electing the president, which ends on October 6. Prime Minister Kurti has said he has begun communications with the opposition leaders and that this weekend will be decisive for reaching an agreement that would avoid the country going to new parliamentary elections.
The PDK wants the amendments to the Law on the Specialist Chambers to be approved first, limiting the mandate of the Specialist Court and envisaging international oversight of its work — an initiative launched after the verdict against the former KLA leaders. The Specialist Court itself has told Radio Free Europe that it was not consulted about this initiative.
