Lawyer Bytyqi: Assembly’s declaration on the Specialist Chambers is political — it will not affect the Hague verdict
The Assembly of Kosovo on Monday (28 September) adopted with 99 votes in favour the declaration against the guilty verdict of the Hague Specialist Court against the former KLA quartet — Hashim Thaçi, Kadri Veseli, Jakup Krasniqi and Rexhep Selimi — as Klan Kosova reports.
Lawyer Asdren Bytyqi, a guest on the Morning Programme on Klan Kosova, said that legally this declaration has no impact on the Specialist Court’s decision, but is political in character.
“This sends more of a message that Kosovo is united in the face of this court’s unjust decision than that it could produce any legal effect; in reality it has zero legal effect and cannot influence anything in this court’s decision,” Bytyqi told Klan Kosova.
According to Klan Kosova, the lawyer considers the adoption of this declaration mainly a joint political gesture of the Kosovar legislature, whose value he sees in the message of unity in the face of the court’s decision, rather than in any concrete legal consequence for the convicted.
