Letter to State Leaders: ‘Genocide in Kosovo’ Centre Again Seeks Abolition of the Specialist Chambers
The 'Genocide in Kosovo – Open Wound' Centre has sent a letter to Kosovo's state leaders, seeking the declaration of a state of emergency and the abolition of the Specialist Chambers.
The “Genocide in Kosovo – Open Wound” Centre has addressed a letter to Kosovo’s state leaders, through which it seeks the declaration of a state of emergency and the abolition of the Kosovo Specialist Chambers and the Specialist Prosecutor’s Office, as Klan Kosova reports. The letter was addressed to the Speaker of the Assembly and acting President, Albulena Haxhiu, Prime Minister Albin Kurti, deputies of the Assembly of Kosovo and the leaders of the political parties.
According to the Centre, the September 16 decision constitutes “a heavy blow to the fundamental provisions of the Constitution of Kosovo.” The letter, according to Klan Kosova’s reporting, is based on the September 28 statement, approved by 99 deputies of the Assembly of Kosovo.
The Centre casts doubt on the composition of the Appeals Panel appointed on September 29, stressing that the selected judges have previously tried the cases of Hysni Gucati, Nasim Haradinaj, Salih Mustafa and Pjetër Shala. “Therefore the result of the Appeals Panel’s decision is DÉJÀ VU!”, the letter says.
The letter asks that the state of emergency and the abrogation of Article 162 of the Constitution be treated as a “categorical imperative.” “Only the abolition of the Specialist Chambers and the Specialist Prosecutor’s Office can save Kosovo from the great danger threatening it,” the letter concludes, according to Klan Kosova.
