Manchester City found guilty of Premier League financial rule breaches
An independent commission has found Manchester City guilty of breaching the Premier League’s financial rules during the 2009–2018 period.
According to the ruling, the club used “sham contracts” with several of its commercial partners during that period, relying on agreements which, in the commission’s view, aimed to artificially inflate the club’s revenues and reduce its costs.
The Premier League also announced that Manchester City were found guilty of most of the charges relating to non-cooperation with the investigation, although no exact figure for the number of breaches in that category was made public.
The case concerns a lengthy investigation into how the club reported its revenues and expenses during the 2009–2018 years.
