Nationwide protest in Pristina: Police announce the roads that will be blocked and their security arrangements
The Kosovo Police, in connection with the protest announced for today at 16:00 at Skanderbeg Square in Pristina by the “Liria ka emer” (Freedom Has a Name) platform, to express the continued dissatisfaction with the verdict of the Specialist Chambers in The Hague against the former KLA leaders, has taken the necessary police measures to provide security, maintain public order and calm, and ensure the smooth running of the protest before, during and until its conclusion.
The Police announce that, under the Law on Public Gatherings, they recognise citizens’ right to free expression through peaceful gatherings and protests and, in their official capacity, are committed to ensuring that the protest passes peacefully and without any incident and that the participants express their aim in a democratic manner and within the legal framework.
“Due to the holding of the protest and the movement of participants, there will be temporary restrictions or interruptions of traffic on the roads affected by the activity, and the Police have therefore also planned the engagement of traffic patrol police units, in case of need to redirect traffic onto alternative roads,” the announcement says.
The Police further announce that, according to police planning, from 15:00 the roads that will be temporarily closed to traffic in the capital are “Luan Haradinaj” and “Enver Zymeri”, but depending on operational needs there may also be other roads on which traffic may be temporarily interrupted.
The Police also announce that police officers will be present on the ground to guarantee constitutional order and public security in the country, and that the security of citizens and the preservation of constitutional order and public security in the country remain a priority of the Kosovo Police.
