PDK: Government must not delay the amended law on the Specialist Chambers
The Democratic Party of Kosovo on Tuesday called on the Assembly to start without delay the procedure for amending the Law on the Specialist Chambers in The Hague, at a press conference held at the party headquarters, KosovaPress reports.
PDK parliamentary group leader Arian Tahiri said the Kosovo government must not further delay returning the law to the Assembly for approval. “The government must not drag out this process. It is time for concrete action for the former KLA leaders,” he said.
PDK MP Përparim Gruda said the approval of amendments to the law on the Specialist Court does not violate any international obligation Kosovo undertook when it established the Specialist. According to him, the draft removes constitutional control from The Hague, while the verdict on interpretation will rest with the Constitutional Court in Kosovo. “No office in the government has reason to hold this law hostage,” Gruda said.
PDK has already submitted the draft to the Assembly, while today’s demands come at a time when the Hague verdict against the KLA quartet has sparked strong political reactions.
