POLAND — Tusk warns of permanent Russian strikes near the border with Ukraine

WARSAW, September 29 (ATSH-DPA) — Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk has warned that Russian strikes on Ukrainian regions near the Polish border have become a permanent phenomenon.

According to him, Polish fighter jets are being scrambled almost every night in response to Russian air attacks in the area.

Speaking on Tuesday before a cabinet meeting, Tusk said Russian strikes near Polish territory have now taken a “permanent character”.

He also warned that Poland faces difficult weeks and months ahead.

In a drone strike yesterday, Ukrainian territory was hit near the Dorohusk–Yahodyn border crossing, one of the main crossings between Ukraine and Poland.

According to the Polish government, the incident occurred close to the Polish border.

Ukrainian sources reported that the drone’s blast wave damaged a building at the border crossing.

No report indicated the drone had hit Polish territory.

Over the past two weeks, Russian drones have repeatedly struck targets on Ukrainian territory near the same border crossing.

The proximity of the strikes to Poland has raised concerns in Warsaw about the security of the country’s eastern border.

In another incident, a passenger train traveling from Kyiv to Warsaw was attacked in this area.

The event has heightened concerns about the security of infrastructure and transport along the corridor linking Ukraine with Poland.

The Polish government has accused Russia of escalating the war in Ukraine.

Warsaw has been one of Ukraine’s main supporters since the start of the large-scale Russian invasion.

Tusk’s warning comes at a time when Poland is closely monitoring air activity near the border and keeping its air force on alert.

The prime minister did not say Poland had been directly attacked, but stressed that the repeated strikes on Ukrainian territory near the border create a new security situation for the country.
