Police respond to social media claims: citizens are not being punished over KLA symbols — it’s disinformation

Kosovo Police has announced it has deployed the necessary human and logistical capacity for the protest announced for tonight, September 20, at 9:00 p.m., in the central square of Prishtina, against the verdict of the Hague Specialist Court.

In a statement, the Police said its deployments are aimed at maintaining public order and peace, ensuring citizens’ safety and managing traffic during and after the protest.

The Police recalled that after the protests held in recent days in the capital, certain groups of participants, including masked individuals, have continued to drive through the streets of Prishtina.

According to the Police, some of them have been driving their vehicles in an uncontrolled and dangerous manner, while other individuals have come out or stood in the windows and on top of vehicles, endangering themselves, pedestrians and other road users.

The Police clarified that the actions of police officers on the ground concern the prevention of such behavior and not the symbols that citizens carry during protests or on their vehicles.

In this context, the Police has denied claims published on social media that citizens are being stopped, punished or subjected to violence because of KLA flags.

“We inform you with full responsibility that the Police of the Republic of Kosovo has not stopped, punished, or exercised violence against any citizen because of historical national symbols or KLA symbols, but because of legal violations,” the Police statement said.

According to the Police, ensuring citizens’ safety, the smooth running of the protest in a peaceful manner, managing traffic and preventing dangerous driving are part of its duties and are carried out in the interest of general safety.

Finally, the Police called on citizens and the media to rely on official information and to avoid spreading unconfirmed claims./Telegrafi.
