Putin threatens the West: Russia could use all weapons if Kaliningrad is attacked
Russian President Vladimir Putin has warned the West that Russia could use “all weapons” at its disposal, including nuclear weapons, in the event of an attack on Russian territory, referring in particular to Kaliningrad.
The statements were made at the annual Valdai forum, at a time when tensions have risen around Kaliningrad, a militarized Russian territory located between Poland, Lithuania and the Baltic Sea.
“If it comes to a direct attack on the Russian Federation… then the question of the Russian Federation using all types of weapons at its disposal will inevitably and immediately be on the agenda. This is inevitable,” Putin said.
In recent months, NATO member countries have conducted several military exercises in areas near Kaliningrad. Moscow has described these activities as “provocative,” while NATO has condemned the Russian threats and, in particular, the nuclear rhetoric.
Putin also criticized the ongoing military exercises in the Baltic Sea and what he described as attempts to stop or seize Russian ships.
“All of this constitutes an escalation,” the Russian president declared.
Putin stressed that Russia does not intend to attack European countries, mentioning the years 2029, 2030 and 2050. However, he warned that in the event of aggression against Russia, Moscow would respond.
“We do not intend to attack anyone, not in 2029, not in 2030, not in 2050. However, if we face aggression, we will be forced to respond,” Putin said.
