Protest in Pristina, police say they stepped up checks on the capital’s streets tonight

Kosovo Police has given details about the measures taken during the protest held on Saturday in Pristina, saying they were aimed at guaranteeing security and the smooth flow of road traffic.

In a press release, the police recalled that after the September 18 protest, several people had staged car parades, dangerous driving and had climbed on top of cars — actions which, according to the police, posed a risk to traffic participants.

For this reason, in order to prevent accidents and guarantee security during the September 19 protest, the police took additional measures at the entrances to the capital’s streets.

According to the police, the measures were aimed at stopping the dangerous driving that had also been observed the previous night, until the late hours past midnight.

“Kosovo Police has never had the intention of stopping or hindering participation in the protest, nor of hindering the movement of vehicles driven in accordance with traffic rules,” the release states.

The police stressed that their goal was to stop dangerous driving and to take measures against persons acting in violation of the law and traffic rules.

Finally, Kosovo Police reiterated that it recognizes citizens’ right to peaceful and democratic protest, while thanking citizens for their cooperation. /Telegrafi/
