Rama: I may have made mistakes in politics, but I have never used power for personal gain
Prime Minister Edi Rama has said he has not used power for personal financial gain.
Rama said the gifts given to him as prime minister were registered as property of the Albanian state, stressing that his aim is to leave a public legacy and not to enrich himself.
He added that during his years in politics he may have made mistakes, but according to him, “money and property” have not bent his conviction to give and not to take.
Edi Rama:
“There is no signature of mine cast either in the municipality or now. I am not an angel, nor infallible. But the fault I have never committed is to treat power for money and for property. Whoever knows me knows well what I am talking about. Whoever has gained legitimate opportunity thanks to my signature knows well what I am talking about. My power has never been used for dark money or to take favors.
“Unlike my predecessor who devoured the gifts, I registered them as property of the Albanian state. What comes for me as prime minister does not come for me to take home nor to keep for myself. That is why I always travel privately. That is why my car is rented by the party, not by the government, because I also use it for electoral meetings. I may have made many mistakes, but never have money, property or anything else been able to bend my conviction that I am here to give, not to take. I am here to make history, not for wealth. I am here to leave my name, not to fatten my pockets.”
