Record labels sue Suno — accused of stealing content to create songs
Major record labels have filed lawsuits against the company Suno, which develops an artificial intelligence platform for music creation, accusing it of using copyright-protected material without permission to train its models.
According to the lawsuits, the companies claim Suno has copied and used a large number of music recordings without obtaining the rights holders’ permission.
In a new lawsuit, Universal Music Group and Sony Music, together with several other record labels, claim Suno used technology to illegally download protected recordings from YouTube. The lawsuit includes claims relating to around 60,000 songs.
Suno has also faced lawsuits from individual artists. Musician Jason Isbell and several other artists have accused the company of generating music using their identity and works without authorisation.
Suno has called these claims unfounded and said it will fight them in court.
The case is part of a wider legal battle between the music industry and artificial intelligence companies over how copyright-protected songs and recordings may be used to train AI systems, as Telegrafi reports.
