Russia launches third straight nightly drone attack on Kyiv; one wounded, fires in buildings and warehouse
Overnight Sept. 26-27, Russia launched another drone attack on Kyiv — the third in a row against the Ukrainian capital — Mayor Vitali Klitschko and the State Emergency Service confirmed, as The Kyiv Independent reports.
Ukrainian air defenses were active over the city throughout the overnight assault as Russian drones approached the capital from different directions.
In the Shevchenkivskyi district, a Russian drone struck an uninhabited residential building. The fire that broke out was brought under control, but emergency crews remained on site to avert further danger.
Damage was also recorded in the Solomianskyi district, where a drone fell in an open area. The blast wave damaged a five-story residential building, shattering windows and damaging the facade. Another fire broke out in a warehouse in the same district after it was hit by a Russian drone.
According to the State Emergency Service, a woman was wounded in the attack and handed over to medics.
The overnight strike follows the series of Russian drone attacks on Kyiv that began the night of Sept. 24. Russian drones kept striking the Ukrainian capital through Sept. 26, when by evening Ukrainian officials reported five people wounded.
