Russia Summons British Chargé d’Affaires: Formal Protest Over UK Arms Supplies to Ukraine
MOSCOW, September 18, 2026 — Russia’s Foreign Ministry summoned on Friday Britain’s chargé d’affaires in Moscow, Danae Dholakia, to deliver a formal protest over what it called the “further increase” of British arms supplies to Ukraine.
In its statement, the ministry said that by sending more weapons to Kyiv, “London places itself in the position of accomplice in the bloody atrocities committed by the Kyiv regime, which can only be characterized as terrorism and war crimes.”
Britain, for its part, says it stands “shoulder to shoulder” with Ukraine and is committed to giving Kyiv the military equipment it needs to defend itself against Russian aggression.
Russia currently has no ambassador in London, while relations between the two countries remain at their lowest point in decades.
The departure of the previous Russian envoy, Andrei Kelin, in July fueled speculation in the British media — denied by Moscow — that Russia was downgrading diplomatic relations with Britain precisely because of London’s role as one of Ukraine’s biggest supporters.
