Russian forces struck the northeastern Ukrainian city of Sumy with glide bombs on September 26, killing two people and injuring 23 others, including four children, local authorities said.
The strikes hit several locations in the Sumy community, including a residential area, said regional governor Oleh Hryhorov. Three children — girls aged 14 and 8 and an 11-month-old baby — and two adults were hospitalized. Dozens of residential buildings and a house were damaged, as well as a cultural institution, two kindergartens, administrative buildings and more than 20 vehicles.
The attack comes days after U.S. President Donald Trump called at the UN General Assembly for an end to the war and met with Zelensky on ceasefire proposals; Zelensky said after the meeting that Ukraine is ready for a mutual ceasefire covering energy infrastructure, including oil refineries, if Russia accepts the same terms.
Russia nevertheless continued large-scale attacks: on the night of September 26 it launched 173 Shahed-type drones, including 50 jet-powered ones; Ukrainian air defenses intercepted 134, while strikes were recorded at 19 locations. Kyiv endured a second straight day of jet-powered drone attacks, as The Kyiv Independent reports.
