String of knife attacks in Louisiana leaves 4 dead; suspect sought
U.S. authorities are searching for a man suspected of carrying out a string of knife attacks in Houma, Louisiana, that left at least four people dead and another person in critical condition in hospital.
Kaegan Jude Solet, 47, has been named as a person of interest in connection with the incidents. Authorities were first called to the Ashland Drive area of Houma, where they found a juvenile with apparent knife wounds.
The victim was airlifted to a hospital outside the area and remains in critical condition. As the investigation continued, authorities later found four deceased victims in a nearby home.
Solet had previously been arrested in connection with a 2019 knife attack in Houma. According to a Houma Police Department press release, Solet was accused of repeatedly stabbing a 59-year-old woman in a hotel following an argument.
At the time, Solet was charged with one count of second-degree attempted murder. The 2019 case is separate from the current investigation. Identifying a person of interest does not constitute an arrest or criminal charge. Authorities have not announced any charges against him in the current case.
The current investigation remains ongoing as detectives continue to gather evidence and develop information about the incidents.
