Tahiri: If the country goes to elections again, Albin Kurti is responsible
Prime Minister Albin Kurti bears the main responsibility for electing the president, the head of the Democratic Party of Kosovo’s parliamentary group, Arian Tahiri, said Tuesday at a press conference, as KosovaPress reports.
According to Tahiri, if by October 6 the Assembly fails to give the country a new head of state, Kosovo will go to early elections again, which he said would be held no later than November 15.
“The presidency is a matter of consensus and political will. PDK has been engaged from day one in avoiding elections. There is no citizen of Kosovo who wants elections. There should be no political maneuvering, drama or situations that produce election after election. The state is being harmed and citizens are being exhausted,” Tahiri said, according to KosovaPress.
Tahiri stressed that for PDK the most important issue in this period remains the approval of legal amendments for the Specialist Court, following the conviction of former KLA leaders on September 16 at the Specialist Chambers.
Asked whether there would be new meetings between PDK leader Bedri Hamza and Prime Minister Albin Kurti, Tahiri said Hamza is seeking the parties’ support for the law and that they will pursue this agenda without pausing for a single day.
