Tensions rise among protesters in the square, Hysni Gucati gets involved
The situation in Pristina’s Skanderbeg Square temporarily grew tense during the all-people’s protest organised against the Specialist Chambers’ decision on the former leaders of the Kosovo Liberation Army (KLA).
Among the gathered crowds was also the representative of the KLA War Veterans’ Organisation, Hysni Gucati, who intervened to manage and calm the situation and to prevent a further escalation of tensions among the protesters.
Today’s protest, called by the civic platform “Liria Ka Emër” (Freedom Has a Name) under the motto “NOT IN MY NAME”, gathered thousands of citizens from all Albanian lands.
It comes in reaction to the Specialist Chambers’ verdict announced on 16 September, in which the former KLA leaders were sentenced to a total of 81 years in prison: Hashim Thaçi – 25 years in prison, Jakup Krasniqi – 25 years in prison, Kadri Veseli – 18 years in prison and Rexhep Selimi – 13 years in prison.
Representatives of the platform, including Ismail Tasholli, declared that this protest is an all-people’s call against what they describe as an injustice towards the liberation war, as Telegrafi reports.
