Territorial Reform, Mazniku reveals what changes in the new map: No municipality is being dissolved!
The Socialist co-chair of the Territorial Reform Commission, Arbjan Mazniku, has stated that the new administrative map does not imply the dissolution of any municipality in the country, but only their merging to improve the administration of services to citizens.
Mazniku clarified that the draft law on territorial reform is expected to be voted on in the Assembly on October 8, while on Monday the discussions in the commission will continue.
Regarding the misunderstandings about this process, Arbjan Mazniku said:
“This is a process that will continue with discussions in the commission; on Monday is the discussion in principle and then article by article; the public hearings have been held, the opinions have been collected.
It is very important to also tell the public that no municipality is being dissolved; the concept of municipalities being dissolved is a wrong term that fuels part of the debate. Municipalities are being united — two or three become part of one large municipality; cities receive a new status, they have their own administrator, they have the city mayor with the role of the mayor of the municipality, they have their own budgets; there is no dissolution of municipalities, there is union of municipalities.”
