“The day of accountability will come” — Çitaku criticizes delays to the Specialist Chambers law

Vlora Çitaku, an MP and deputy speaker of Kosovo’s Assembly, has criticized the fast-track review of government bills and demanded that the bill amending the Law on Specialist Chambers be sent to the Assembly immediately, as Telegrafi reports.

In a Facebook post, Çitaku said many of the bills being reviewed under fast-track procedures relate to the justice sector and, in her view, are passing without proper analysis, substantive debate or public hearings.

“Justice is not reformed by avoiding parliamentary scrutiny. This haste raises serious doubts that the laws are being tailored to the government’s political agenda,” she wrote.

Çitaku criticized the justice minister for what she described as keeping the Specialist Chambers bill in a drawer under the justification of “legal expertise.” “For other laws, fast-track procedures. For the protection of the KLA, delays!” she stressed.

Addressing Donika, Albin and the responsible officials, Çitaku asked them not to block the bill and to send it to the Assembly at once, urging them to listen to the people who, as she wrote, have been in the square for 15 days. “Every day of delay will only add to your responsibility. And believe me: the day of accountability will come!” Çitaku concluded.
