The hidden clause: Urbig made his national team debut, Bayern must pay €1.2 million
Thursday evening was perfect for Jonas Urbig! Bayern’s back-up goalkeeper made his debut for the German national team, wearing the number 1 shirt for the first time in the 2-0 Nations League win against Serbia.
But the national-team debut of Manuel Neuer’s successor has been “expensive” for FC Bayern, because the Bavarian club accepted a specific clause requested by 1. FC Köln when it agreed to Urbig’s transfer in January 2025.
Under the agreement reached, the North Rhine–Westphalia club will receive a full €1.2 million following the talent’s debut for the senior national team. This sum is added to the €7 million Bayern paid a few years ago to buy the 23-year-old’s registration. A further €3 million will be paid by Bayern in easily achievable bonuses. A.V.
