The Hyseni case: Rama says responsibility is individual, it does not prove the government is corrupt
Prime Minister Edi Rama, speaking about the investigation of former State Intelligence Service (SHISH) chief Vlora Hyseni, said that responsibility before justice is individual and her case must be treated as a personal confrontation with the justice bodies. Rama stressed that the independence of justice cannot imply irresponsibility toward the law or violations of human rights.
“The prosecution has the duty to investigate, the court to judge and the media to discover, inform and demand accountability, but no one has the right to declare another guilty before the trial and then dehumanize them publicly. When a senior official has opened an account with justice, it is an individual matter with justice. I have nothing more to add on this topic itself,” he declared.
Rama then turned to the political interpretation of recent developments and the corruption accusations against the government. He said the fact that justice institutions investigate people holding high offices cannot be taken as proof that corruption has spread in the government or that it is increasing. “Dear voters, regardless of your convictions and the direction of your vote, the fact that justice touches even people with high functions in no way proves that corruption has drowned us or that it is growing. On the contrary, independent investigations of individuals who have exercised power show that justice institutions are acting even against people with high functions,” Rama said.
Rama also said the government remains committed to reforms and anti-corruption measures, linking that commitment to support for independent justice bodies.
