The Museum of Medieval Art brings iconography closer to young people

The National Museum of Medieval Art signed a Cooperation Agreement with the University of Tirana, namely with the Faculty of History and Philology.

The agreement aims to strengthen the link between the museum and the academic world, creating more space for research, cooperation and the involvement of the new generation of scholars in museum life.

The agreement was signed as part of the National Day of Cultural Heritage. Attention was also paid to bringing young people closer to the world of iconography, and to recognizing and promoting our cultural heritage.

One of the special moments was the conversation with scholar Dr. Ahilino Palushi and the pupils of the “Tefta Tashko Koço” school, where the art of iconography was discussed, along with one of the important representatives of this tradition, Nilus the Hieromonk. For the pupils, this was not simply a lesson, but also an opportunity to see heritage beyond the exhibited objects, as a history that must be known, understood and passed on.

The young people also had the opportunity to see up close how an icon is born. Together with iconography specialist Kostika Koti, the 9th-grade pupils of the “Sevasti Qiriazi” school took part in the practical process of painting an icon, on the premises of the National Museum of Medieval Art.

Brushes, colors and iconography techniques turned into a concrete experience for the young people, arousing curiosity and interest in one of the most important forms of Albanian art and heritage.
