Tribute to director Luchino Visconti at the 24th TIFF
The work of one of the most important names in Italian cinema, Luchino Visconti, will be in focus at the 24th Tirana International Film Festival (TIFF), through a special programme (RetrospecTIFF) — a tribute to the renowned director.
The Albanian public will have the chance to rediscover Visconti’s creativity through three of his films, which bring to the screen themes of society, passions, conflicts and human fragility.
The programme opens on 22 September 2026, at 17:30, at the Millennium cinema, with the film “Ossessione” (1943), the director’s first feature and one of the titles that marked an important moment in the development of Italian cinema.
A day later, on 23 September, at 20:00, at the Agimi Cinema, “Rocco e i suoi fratelli” (1960) will be screened, a family and social drama dealing with the clashes, changes and hardships of a family that moved from southern Italy to Milan.
The programme closes on 26 September, at 20:30, again at the Millennium Cinema, with “L’innocente” (1976), Visconti’s last film, based on the novel by Gabriele D’Annunzio.
Through these three works, TIFF, in collaboration with the Italian Institute of Culture in Tirana, brings to the capital an important part of Luchino Visconti’s legacy, giving the public the chance to return to an auteur who uniquely intertwined the aesthetic dimension of film with the portrayal of society and the complexity of human relationships.
The tribute programme for Visconti is another opportunity to see on the big screen works that continue to preserve their artistic importance and testify to the strength of Italian cinema.
