Trump launches a 32-day campaign tour in Texas and Oklahoma ahead of the midterm elections

The President of the United States, Donald Trump, today, Thursday, begins an intensive 32-day campaign in support of Republican candidates for the November 3 midterm elections, as Reuters reports. The first trip will take him to Texas and Oklahoma, where Republicans are fighting to maintain their narrow majorities in Congress.

Polls show that rising prices and the cost of living are damaging support for the Republicans. Trump himself told his supporters at a White House event on Wednesday that he had done “a bad job” so far in selling his economic record since returning to the White House in January 2025.

Some Republican candidates in competitive races for the House of Representatives and the Senate have welcomed Trump’s decision to get involved in the campaign, but others are increasingly distancing themselves from him over issues that are angering voters, including the war with Iran and energy-hungry data centres.

Texas is among eight competitive Senate races. The Republican candidate for the Senate, Ken Paxton, the state’s attorney general, is expected to appear with Trump at a stop north of Dallas, according to his campaign, Reuters reports. Attention on the relationship between them grew after a recording emerged in which Paxton told donors that Trump’s midterm convention in September had harmed him and other Republican candidates. Paxton’s campaign dismissed the recording as “manipulated nonsense”, while Trump told reporters on Wednesday that he had not heard about it. “I can tell you the convention was amazing,” he said in the Oval Office.

The 32-day campaign is expected to be the president’s biggest electoral test before the November 3 midterms, at a moment when Republicans are trying to convince voters that their policies are lowering the cost of living.
