Trump lifts tariffs on Irish whiskey as crowd chants “USA” at the Irish Open

U.S. President Donald Trump announced on Sunday that his administration will lift tariffs on Irish whiskey.

The announcement was made during the awards ceremony of the Irish Open golf tournament, held at his golf resort, Trump International Golf Club, in Doonbeg, Ireland, where Trump is spending the weekend.

“Everyone has been bugging me, saying: can you do me a favor? It’s so unfair what’s happening. Can you lift the tariffs on Irish whiskey? And I said: on behalf of the United States of America, I will lift the tariffs on Irish whiskey,” the president told those present.

The crowd greeted the announcement with big applause and chants of “USA,” creating a festive atmosphere at the Atlantic-side resort.

The announcement comes within the framework of the Trump administration’s trade policy and U.S.–Ireland economic relations. The U.S. president’s two-day visit to Ireland also included diplomatic meetings in Dublin, while protests against him were also organized.
