Trump on Iran: “Either It Vanishes Completely or a Deal” — Open to Meeting Pezeshkian at the UN
United States President Donald Trump has declared that for Iran there are only three options: “to vanish completely, to let it rot economically, or to reach a deal.” The statements were made in an interview with Fox News, reported Sunday by Al Jazeera.
Trump added that the question is “when — and whether” he will strike Iran again, warning Tehran that it had “better behave.” He also said that some Iranian officials are “hiding like rats” and that it is impossible to find someone with whom a deal can be negotiated.
However, the American president left the door to diplomacy open: he said he is open to a meeting with Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly, which convenes this week in New York.
In the same interview, Trump declared that the United States is “in constant contact” with Yemen’s Houthis and that the group has agreed “not to fight” the United States. The statement comes a day after the Houthis claimed responsibility for drone and missile attacks on the Saudi capital Riyadh and the Red Sea port of Yanbu.
According to Trump, next week “is no different from any other week in the Middle East,” despite warnings issued to American citizens in the region. The U.S.–Iran war has entered its seventh month, with no signs of an imminent end.
