Trump to meet Mayor Mamdani at Gracie Mansion on Monday, a day before the UN speech

U.S. President Donald Trump will meet New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani at Gracie Mansion on Monday, a day ahead of the UN General Assembly session.

The meeting will take place at Gracie Mansion, the New York City mayor’s official residence in Manhattan, and was announced on Sunday by Mayor Mamdani’s office, according to a CNN report.

This will be the third time the two leaders meet face to face. The first meeting took place in the Oval Office in November 2025, shortly after Mamdani’s election as New York City mayor, and the second in February.

Although Trump has in the past called Mamdani “my little communist”, the tone changed after the first meeting: the U.S. president described the mayor as “a very rational person”.

During the February meeting, Mamdani requested the release of Columbia University student Elmina Aghayeva, detained by immigration agents. Trump later informed the mayor that the student would be released.

Visits by U.S. presidents to Gracie Mansion are rare — the most recent such visit was Ronald Reagan’s with Mayor Ed Koch.

The meeting comes days ahead of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s speech on Thursday at the UN General Assembly. Mamdani has stated he will not take part in protests against Netanyahu.
