Trump’s ‘super intelligence’ sparks rush for Slovenia’s .si domains
WASHINGTON, September 29 — U.S. President Donald Trump’s announcement that the American administration will use the term “super intelligence” (SI) instead of “artificial intelligence” has caused an immediate surge in requests to register internet names with the “.si” suffix, Slovenia’s national domain, according to ATSH-AFP.
During his speech last week at the United Nations General Assembly, President Trump said the term “super intelligence” was more fitting and sounds much better.
According to him, the United States of America will use the phrase in official documents.
The statement had an unexpected effect on the domain market.
Klara Herman, spokesperson for Register.si, the organization that administers the Slovenian domain, said a significant and sustained increase in requests for “.si” domains has been observed since President Trump’s speech.
The figures show the scale of the interest.
Throughout August, around 3,500 “.si” domains were registered, while after Trump’s remarks the number has risen to an average of around 3,700 registrations per day.
However, the surge in requests has caused no problems in the operation of Register.si or the Slovenian domain itself.
The authority has meanwhile called on companies and trademark holders that do not yet have a “.si” address to consider registering one.
According to data published by Register.si, the total number of registered “.si” domains had passed 220,000 as of today.
The case is an unusual example of how a terminological change in American politics can create unexpected demand in an entirely different market — in this case Slovenia’s domain-name system.
