“Cameras may be open to anyone,” IT expert demonstrates the risk live
Invited on the “Review” show with Greta Topjana, IT expert Edmond Liçaj gave a live demonstration of how cameras can be accessed not only by the person who owns them at home or in their business, but also by other people who have nothing to do with them.
Through his phone he entered a publicly open camera, which was located in the home of a lady in a country outside Albania.
The IT expert said that, when cameras are installed in private premises or businesses, care must be taken to create PINs and passwords, so that only the persons who own them have access and not other people.
“The lady is in a private space, on her balcony. It was taken for illustration from a public live video, with the date and time, 03.10.2026. That lady is on the balcony of her home, but her cameras are on a list of millions of cameras that the technician installed and left open and public. That means, if you have not configured it and left it as it was installed, there is a possibility for others to enter too. It is like buying a phone and leaving it somewhere without setting a PIN; someone else can get into it. When only I know the PIN, only I get in, and it is the same with cameras. And with everything else we own, passwords and PINs should not be shared with other people,” he said.
