Two Russian drones strike Kyiv’s South Bridge while cars and the metro were crossing it
Kyiv, October 1, 2026 — Two Russian drones struck at around 12:20 local time near the support pillars of Kyiv’s South Bridge, the key link between the eastern and western banks of the Dnipro River, at a moment when cars and a metro train were crossing it, as the Kyiv Independent reports.
The attack temporarily interrupted the Ukrainian capital’s key metro link. Videos circulating on social media show flames on the bridge and a column of smoke rising above it.
Traffic was stopped, while emergency services inspected the bridge and are assessing the damage. The Mayor of Kyiv, Vitali Klitschko, reported the attack; his announcement mentioned no casualties.
The strike on the South Bridge came on the same day as another drone attack on a school in Kyiv’s Solomianskyi district. At the moment of the attack, the children and teachers were in a shelter and there were no injuries, while President Volodymyr Zelensky reacted on the X platform. The same day, a non-residential complex in the Pecherskyi district and several warehouses in the Solomianskyi district were also hit.
