Two wartime missing persons from Kosovo identified

Two more people who went missing during the last war in Kosovo have been identified through DNA analysis.

This was announced by the Government Commission on Missing Persons, which clarified that the two cases are not linked to the recent exhumations in Zubin Potok or to locations addressed this year.

“The Government Commission on Missing Persons announces that last week two DNA reports were received for the identification of the mortal remains of two persons who went missing during the war,” the announcement states.

“We clarify that these two identifications are not linked to the exhumations in Kalludër and Jabukë, nor to the recent developments in Zubin Potok, nor to any other location addressed during this year.”

The Government Commission on Missing Persons notes that these identifications result from the detailed re-examination of mortal remains held in the morgue of the Institute of Forensic Medicine, as well as from the process of collecting supplementary reference biological samples from family members.

“So this concerns mortal remains exhumed earlier, not during recent field activities. The DNA reports have been shared with the Institute of Forensic Medicine, which, after the relevant verifications, officially confirms the identification. During this week, families will be notified of the results and the next steps, in accordance with the relevant procedures,” the announcement states, as Telegrafi reports.

The Government Commission on Missing Persons stresses that it remains committed to clarifying the fate of persons violently disappeared during the war, in respect of families and their right to know the truth.
