U.S. – Closed-door meeting at Camp David, Trump’s senior officials discuss Iran and the Houthi rebels
Senior officials of U.S. President Donald Trump’s administration gathered yesterday at Camp David, Maryland, USA, for a closed-door meeting, where they discussed the war in Iran and the conflict between Saudi Arabia and the Houthi rebels in Yemen, Axios reported, citing three U.S. officials.
The meeting lasted several hours and was chaired by U.S. Vice President J.D. Vance.
It was attended by U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio, Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth, White House special envoy Steve Witkoff, CIA Director John Ratcliffe, and the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, General Dan Caine.
According to the officials cited by Axios, during the meeting decisions were taken or, at least, detailed discussions were held on the crisis in the Middle East.
The Trump administration had not announced the meeting in advance, and the White House declined to comment on it.
The meeting took place while negotiations with Iran have stalled and the U.S. administration is considering further steps regarding the conflict.
According to Axios, Trump is considering the possibility of resuming large-scale military operations against Iran.
At the same time, Saudi Arabia is seeking U.S. support for airstrikes against the Houthi rebels in Yemen, while the U.S. administration is considering the position it will take on Riyadh’s request.
