Foreign tourists keep visiting the Alps even in October; litter is a problem

Even though the calendar marks October, Theth continues to be one of the most visited tourist destinations in the north of the country. Groups of tourists from different countries around the world continue to fill the guesthouses and trails of this mountain village, proving that interest in the Albanian Alps does not end with the summer months.

Among the many visitors during this period are also tourists from Israel, who travel in large groups, mostly by car, covering not only Theth, but also other destinations in Albania. One of them says he has returned to our country several times, while he praises the natural beauties and the development of the area, but underlines the need for more infrastructure and services.

“I come from Israel to Theth for the umpteenth time. We travel in groups by car and tour all of Albania. We adore Albania, it is very beautiful. We like it a lot, but there should be more facilities, such as roads and services. But it is very beautiful here and it is developing,” said a tourist from Israel.

For some of the tourists, this is their first visit to Theth. Helena, who came from Israel, says that what has impressed her most is the nature and the hospitality of the residents. She singles out the mountain landscape, which she considers special even compared to other destinations she has visited in the world.

“I am Helena and I come from Israel. It is my first time here and I like it a lot, especially the people are very kind, hospitable. The nature here is something special and I like it a lot. I have travelled to many countries in the world, but none is like here, especially the mountains. God seems to have created the mountains only for you,” said Helena from Israel.

Alongside the natural beauties, tourists also point out problems which, according to them, require more attention. A couple from Germany, visiting Theth for the first time, was impressed by the landscape and also visited the Blue Eye, but suggests that more care should be taken with waste management.

“It is the first time we are here and we come from Germany. We saw the Blue Eye, which is very beautiful. We have also visited the south, but it seemed a bit busier with people. Everything is beautiful here, perhaps we should do something better with the litter,” said the tourist.

His wife also praises the nature of Theth and the improvements in infrastructure, which, according to her, were better than she expected. However, she singles out the problem of litter, which, according to her, is present in different areas.

“Before coming here I heard some information that it was hot here and there were difficulties with the roads, but it turned out a little better than I expected, as some roads had been made new. The problem is the heat. The nature here is fantastic and I like it a lot, but there is a bit of a problem with litter, which is present everywhere,” she said.

The high temperatures beyond the norm for this period, together with the flow of visitors, are making Theth continue to be visited even in autumn. The beauty of the Alps and the hospitality of the residents remain among the main reasons attracting tourists from all over the world, while infrastructure, services and waste management continue to be challenges for the sustainable development of tourism in the area.
