UAE Condemns Houthi Attempt on Mecca: “Violation of Saudi Sovereignty”

The Houthis have strongly denied targeting Mecca. Their military spokesman, Yahya Saree, said the group’s targets were Saudi oil installations and military bases “far from the holy sites,” calling the Saudi claims “lies” and “fabrications.”

The UAE’s condemnation joins a wave of reactions from the Muslim world: earlier the Organization of Islamic Cooperation, Qatar, Somalia, Turkey and Lebanon condemned it, while UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres called for lowering tensions in the region.
