University of Prishtina Students March in Prishtina Against the Hague Verdict
Students of the University of Prishtina “Hasan Prishtina” took to the streets today in a peaceful protest march opposing the first-instance verdict of the Kosovo Specialist Chambers in The Hague against four former leaders of the Kosovo Liberation Army.
The march, organized by the Student Parliament of the University of Prishtina, started at 11:30 from the Student Center and headed toward “Skënderbeu” Square, where speeches had been announced for 12:00. Students from other public and private universities also joined the march.
Organizers called for the march to be peaceful, asked participants not to wear masks, and stressed that the aim of the activity was to convey messages of unity, dignity and solidarity.
The students also prepared a six-point memorandum, which was expected to be read during the activity and published after the march ended.
The march takes place on the sixth day of protests following the September 16 verdict, by which Hashim Thaçi was sentenced to 25 years in prison, Jakup Krasniqi to 25 years, Kadri Veseli to 18 years and Rexhep Selimi to 13 years – 81 years in total. Last evening, on the fifth night of protests, thousands of citizens gathered at “Skënderbeu” Square, joined by family members of the four former KLA leaders, with banners such as “Not in my name”, “No peace without justice” and “Freedom has a name”.
