US – Trump announces the end of the American military presence in Iraq
WASHINGTON, September 30 /ATSH – AA/. – US President Donald Trump announced on Wednesday that the last American forces are leaving Iraq, declaring the end of more than two decades of American military involvement in the country.
“Today, I am pleased to announce that the last American forces are leaving Iraq!” Trump said on his social platform Truth Social.
“It has been a long time, with very bad decision-making that got us into this quagmire from the very start, but soon this will be part of history,” he added.
Trump said the withdrawal will mark the conclusion of Operation “Inherent Resolve” and described the departure of the coalition’s forces and equipment from Erbil Air Base as an orderly conclusion of the American mission.
The President also praised Iraq’s new Prime Minister, Ali al-Zaidi.
“This is a great day for America and, most importantly, we are leaving Iraq with a wonderful new prime minister, Ali al-Zaidi, someone I supported from the beginning and fully endorsed,” Trump said.
“He won an election he was not expected to win, and he did so in a landslide!” he added.
