Von der Leyen calls for the election of a president: Institutional stability is the foundation of everything

European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen has called for the continuation of dialogue between the political parties in Kosovo, describing institutional stability as the foundation for the country’s development and its progress toward the European Union, as Telegrafi reports.

Speaking after her meeting with Prime Minister Albin Kurti, Von der Leyen said the formation of the Assembly and the Government constitutes an important step, while stressing that the next step is the election of the president.

“The Assembly and the Government have been established, and that is good. The next step is the election of the president, and lately we are seeing that dialogue between the political parties is possible. You must continue in this direction, because institutional stability is the foundation of everything,” Von der Leyen said.

She reiterated her support for Kosovo’s European perspective, saying she clearly believes in the country’s future within the European Union.

“I believe in Kosovo’s European future, and I believe it clearly, because I know how deeply the people of Kosovo feel European,” Von der Leyen declared.

The European Commission President also spoke about financial support through the Growth Plan, saying Kosovo can benefit up to 882 million euros.

“Kosovo can receive 882 million euros under the Growth Plan. You have received 62 million euros as pre-financing,” she said.

According to Von der Leyen, implementing reforms and using the Growth Plan instruments can bring Kosovo closer to the European common market.

“The Growth Plan can bring you closer to the common market,” the European Commission President said.
