“We preserved impartiality” — Ombudsman Shabani reacts to Constitutional Court ruling

The Democratic Party’s request concerning the appointment of Ombudsman Endrit Shabani was rejected by the Constitutional Court today.

Following the decision, the head of the institution himself, Endrit Shabani, reacted, saying he respects the Constitutional Court’s ruling and that he has answered every question about the election procedure.

His reaction:

“The Ombudsman respects the decision of the Constitutional Court, which, at the request of a group of MPs, verified the procedure followed by Parliament for the election of the head of the institution and found it to be in line with the Constitution.

In this case, the Ombudsman preserved impartiality toward the petitioners and Parliament by taking no position on the merits of the case and entrusting the assessment entirely to the Court, to which the final interpretation of the Constitution belongs.

Today’s decision answers every question about the election procedure. The Ombudsman continues its work for the protection of human rights.”
