What we learned from the Chicago Bears’ 27-7 win over the Philadelphia Eagles on Monday Night Football
The Chicago Bears beat the Philadelphia Eagles 27-7 on Monday night, a result that highlighted the strong comeback of Chicago’s defense and the weaknesses in Philadelphia’s offensive rhythm.
As the NFL reports, Case Keenum made a successful return as starter after more than a year out, directing the offense with clarity. He finished 24-of-34 for 247 yards and two passing touchdowns, and also scored a rushing touchdown — becoming the oldest player in Bears history to score a rushing TD, at 38 years and 223 days — going 14-of-20 for 145 yards and two TDs on throws under 2.5 seconds. The opening script and a pass to Luther Burden III on the first drive suggested Keenum can keep the offense stable while Caleb Williams is out injured.
On Philadelphia’s side, mistakes set the limits: an intentional grounding by Jalen Hurts spoiled a promising start, Tank Bigsby lost the ball in his own territory, and an end-zone interception came as Hurts was being evaluated for a hit. The Eagles managed a touchdown on a Hurts sneak late in the first half to close to 10-7, but in the second half the offense found no rhythm — just three punts, an interception, a turnover on downs and 52 net yards were part of their post-break performance. Saquon Barkley, explosive in the first half, was stopped in the second and added only 9 rushing yards.
Chicago showed the rebuild of its defense after a weak Week 1 start; the team won the turnover battle 3-0. Austin Booker forced Bigsby’s fumble that put Chicago in the danger zone, while rookie Dillon Thieneman got his first career interception in the end zone and the game’s tackle leader, with six tackles, contributed to the defensive recovery. Another fourth-down stop late in the fourth quarter gave the Bears the chance to complete a 13-play, 52-yard drive that sealed the win and snuffed out Philadelphia’s comeback attempts.
According to the NFL, the result underlined that Chicago can rely on the collective performance of its defense and on Keenum’s experience in key spots, while Philadelphia must rethink how it manages mistakes and offensive rhythm in the absence of its key player.
