13th Silk Road International Film Festival closes in Xi’an: ‘Black Night, Black Gold’ wins best film

The 13th Silk Road International Film Festival closed on the evening of September 23 in Xi’an, China, with the “Golden Silk Road” awards ceremony. The Best Feature Film award went to “Black Night, Black Gold”. Wang Ju was named Best Actress and Ivan Savov Best Actor. Renowned Chinese film director and educator Xie Fei was honored with the Lifetime Achievement Award for Film Art, in recognition of his many years of contribution to cinema.

This edition saw 2,130 films from 139 countries and regions compete, of which only 23 reached the final evaluation stage. The international jury was chaired by Oscar-winning cinematographer Peter Pau, while the country of honor this edition was Egypt, represented with a special program of films and activities.

During the festival, international cooperation agreements were also signed, including the co-production project “The Wandering Accordion” and a strategic partnership with the Cairo International Film Festival — steps that strengthen cinematic exchanges along the Silk Road.

The festival also drew major public attention: more than 400 films were screened and over 100,000 spectators attended public screenings in Xi’an. Box-office revenue grew 6.3% compared to the last edition, confirming rising interest in the festival.

At the close of the ceremony, the festival flag was handed to the city of Fuzhou, which will host the next edition of the Silk Road International Film Festival.
