27-Year-Old Left Unable to Work After Workplace Accident; Prizren Court Has Issued No Ruling in 4 Years
A 27-year-old man from Prizren has been left unable to work after an accident at his workplace. Bledar Shijaku suffered severe injuries in the accident, which restrict movement on one side of his body, and over time he also developed epilepsy, as Klan Kosova reports.
Although his lawyer, Mehdi Geci, has submitted to the court the medical documents proving the loss of his ability to work, the Basic Court in Prizren has issued no decision on the case in four years. The delay, according to the lawyer, has dragged on without any valid reason, and he has described it as a violation of fundamental human rights.
The lawsuit filed with the court’s civil division also went nowhere. According to Geci, the court suspended the hearings at the request of the opposing party. The 27-year-old’s defense team says it is now waiting for the court to appoint the experts who will assess his health condition.
In a written response to the KIKS program, the Basic Court in Prizren said it had handled the case over the years but was facing a large caseload and that this case was not among its priorities.
